Join a FREE online class to improve how you move

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:30 am - 11:30am PST, hosted by Northwest Parkinson's Foundation

  • What to expect: Gentle fun movement exploration that makes you feel more limber and more comfortable doing daily movements like getting up from a chair and walking.  Participants say their arms swing easier, neck pain is down, posture and symmetry improves, and it gets easier to walk on uneven ground.

Topics are based on participants' challenge areas:  upcoming topics include posture, speaking, swallowing, smiling, handwriting, incontinence, vision, constipation, difficulty peeing, sleep challenges, preventing and overcoming freezing, rolling over in bed, going up and down stairs, stepping off curbs ...

  • What you need to participate:
    - a computer (PC or Mac) or laptop with Internet access,  speaker, and microphone, or a cell phone.
    - a comfortable chair and a quiet space

  • How to sign up: Go to www.EventBrite.com, and search for "NWPF Feldenkrais". That will give you the link for the current series. Once you sign up, you'll receive a Zoom link.

  • New to Zoom?: No problem. Email Irene at irene@movebeyondlimits.com and I'll set up a time to walk you through getting connected.

How Feldenkrais can help with Parkinson's

The Feldenkrais Method can make a huge difference in balance, helping you feel more secure on your feet and prevent falls. Each class or private session will leave you feeling a little looser and more mobile. You'll reduce the effort required for activities like sitting and walking, leaving you with more energy to continue to do your favorite activities. You can improve your independence by improving your balance, and learning ways to more easily turn over in bed, get in and out of the car, put on shoes, overcome freezing, or use a walker safely. Feldenkrais can help you preserve your relationships by helping you maintain mobility in your face and speech volume and clarity. Because you'll see progress in each lesson, it can also help counteract the depression that can come with a chronic illness. As your body develops more movement choices, your emotions open up as well.

In addition to the online classes, we can also work with you in 1-1 sessions online (while Covid keeps us all social distancing), or once we enter Phase 3 in King County, in our offices in Bellevue or Seattle. We offer two types of private sessions:

  • Working on your specific movement challenges - whether it be chronic pain or difficulty doing specific actions.

  • If your Parkinson's has progressed so that you receive help from a caregiver, whether it be a family member or someone you've hired, we can work with your caregiver and you to help them learn how best to assist you. For example, learning ways to cue you for easier movement, and ways to keep your brain and sense of personal agency actively engaged.

We are also happy to come to your online Parkinson's support group to do a free movement lesson.
